Fables of the Borderlands
The Dungeon or jail, is a harrowing place of forgetting for most criminals. Enemies of the state, are dealt with in the torture chamber, where black hooded figures extract ‘confessions’ with an assortment of insidious torment inflicting devices. Prisoners are kept in small cells, some as tiny as 4′×4′×4′. Small windows exist on the outside of the Keep walls that lead down narrow tunnels to the prison cells below, affording a look of two things; the sky during the day, and sky at night.
The jailers wear burlap hoods with small openings cut into the face of their masks, with a piece of netting sewn into the hole. Speaking is prohibited, as such the only sounds which occur are those of the rats which crawl over the bodies of the condemned, and the repetitive gnawing sound of dripping water. Some nights the screams of tortured prisoners can be heard, but whether the work of trapped spirits or an active session of torment, the prisoner can only guess.
